You might be more sensitive to the needs of others during the holiday season. You might notice your awareness compels you to bond more deeply with the people you care about. You can use these feelings of empathy to work on seeing the common thread between all humans by understanding the travail of others. Look at the people you encounter and see their humanity. Notice their expressions, how they walk, their speech - picture yourself in their shoes - imagine how you would feel if you were in their place. Think about the difficulties they might have and use your own experiences to identify with them. You will notice that by relating to the travail of others, your capacity for compassion expands. When you connect to the universality of humanity in everyone, you generate a greater ability to empathize with others. By connecting with the human details in others and visualizing their life as the same as yours helps you to understand that we are all one. We are all children of the universe who need to manage the same issues and undergo similar struggles. Realizing these commonalities will help you truly empathize with other.
