Pain can be very much hurdle some when experienced in severity. Any pain like pain in neck, back, stomach or anywhere in the body can be very much disturbing and may not allow concentrating on the task in hand. Popping in a pain killer can be a suitable option for those who lack time or may not have patience to let the pain subside naturally. Pain killers top the list of favorites in medicines. People depend on them for instant relief from pain and getting euphoric feeling. Another name for this is narcotics. They are also known as opioids. They are the oldest as well as the strongest analgesics, or pain-relieving drugs, known to humans.Traditional Chinese medicine recommended the opium poppy for the treatment of asthma, severe diarrhea, and dysentery as well as chronic pain and insomnia. Ancient Sumerian and Egyptian medical texts documented this drug as early as 4000 B.C. they had mentioned the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) as the source of a milky fluid (opium latex) that could be administered as drug to relieve coughs and insomnia and to ease pain.Narcotic medication can be highly addictive if not administered under proper guidance or without expert knowledge. These medications do not heal the root of the pain, but they reduce the effect of pain psychologically. These drugs only reduce the feeling of pain rather than actually treating the pain. Apart from its pain forgetting properties, other property of releasing euphoric feeling is very much addictive to people. Heroin is one of the most widely abused drugs belonging to this category. Pain killing properties of narcotic drugs are used in many specialized treatments like cancer, kidney stones etc. These drugs are useful to help in reducing the pains after big surgeries or in painless delivery of child. When these medicines are administered under expert guidance they only release their pain reducing characteristic, they are not given in stronger dosage to create a euphoric feeling, and thus it is highly recommended to use these drugs with the expert’s help only to avoid any side effect. Developed tolerance to these medicines may lead doctors to increase the dosage, but one should be careful enough to distinguish between the habit and requirement of the medicine. Once it is understood, medical practitioners can appropriately administer drugs without developing any habit.
