One of the last steps that students need to take when completing a science fair project is to write up their report. A science fair report is going to summarize the steps taken by the student to complete their project and it will also include a list of their references and a literature review from their initial background research. As can be expected, writing this report is one of the least favorite parts for students.Reducing the Amount of WorkMost students are going to spend between five and ten hours writing up their final science fair project report. This is unfortunate as a report can be completed in less than an hour if the student knows how to manage their tasks. The extra time that most students spend on creating their report is due to the fact that students repeat processes that they do not have to.To streamline the report writing process students need to construct each component of their report as they complete each step of the scientific method. This strategy will reduce time spent rewriting information from the student's original notes. This is particularly true for the bibliography and literature review section.Tips for Writing a Science Fair ReportWhen you are first given the assignment to complete a science fair project it is a good idea to set up your report. This can be done in Word or your choice of word processing software. You will want to create a title page, a table of contents, text pages that have bolded headers for each step in the scientific method and a reference page. You can fill out the information in each section of your report as you complete the step. For example, when you conduct your background research you will want to create your bibliography in your report and you will want to complete your literature review section.Data collection and analysis are two sections that are going to require you to work outside of your report and then cut and paste information into the report. The data collection process needs to be done in a spreadsheet. This is also where your analysis will be done. Once these two tasks have been created you can just cut and paste what you need into your report. Then you can write out an explanation of your data.Revising Your Science Fair Project ReportAfter you have completed your science fair project you will need to complete your science fair project report. This is where most students spend multiple hours struggling, but if you followed the tips listed above, you will be able to complete it in under an hour.To start with you will need to complete a brief introduction and a conclusion that summarizes your findings and that also lists what additional research is required.Secondly you will read through your report and revise it for grammar and flow.Next you will edit your report for typing mistakes and omissions. This is when you can smooth out your wording further and create a final draft. The final step is to create your table of contents and to give your report a final read through. Make corrections if they are needed. Then print out your report and prepare it to be graded.
