Today, there are many types of IWBs available in the market. These different types of whiteboards can be used for a range of applications, from use in classrooms to its use in corporate board rooms. All interactive whiteboards work on the principle that the user is able to input data by touching the board. This article will discuss some of these types of interactive whiteboard resources and their advantages. The most common type of whiteboard resource is the resistive type and works on the same principles of a touch screen. These boards are composed of two thin sheets placed next to each other. When the user touches the board with the finger, these two sheets come into contact. This creates a signal which is transferred to the computer and is used to determine the point of contact with the board. This type of IWB allows the user to use the finger, stylus or other pointed device to input data. There is another type of whiteboard which has a series of networks of wires embedded behind the board. A constant current is passed through these wires, creating a circuit. When the user places the stylus (data can only be input through a stylus) on the board, the electromagnetic coils in the stylus disrupts this circuit. The coordinates of the point of disruption is transferred to the computer, which then performs the required action. This has the advantage that no signal will be created if the user leans on the board.Another, more expensive type of whiteboard is the infrared-light-curtain. It detects the point of contact through the use of infrared cameras and receivers. The advantage is that the board can be made from any type of material.
