Ok, so you know you need more omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. After all, they're proven to do everything from reducing inflammation, to improving your memory, to protecting you from heart disease. But, you may wonder, how much omega 3 do you need anyway?Nutritionists and doctors agree that you need to get more of these nutrients either through your diet or through supplements.But how much you need varies on your age and health. An average, healthy 35 year old may get the omega 3 fatty acids he needs by eating 2-3 fish meals a week and eating more spinach and Brussels sprouts.But cardiologists agree that a heart patient needs more of these nutrients and will probably benefit from a fish oil supplement.The reason fish keeps coming up is that it's a rich resource for these fatty acids. Like aspirin, fish oil is a blood thinner and can interfere with other medicines you may be taking.Psychiatrists may also recommend more than 1-2 supplements a day to boost your mood. Studies show, some patients have been able to stop taking psychotropic drugs once they got the right balance of these essential fatty acids in their bodies. Again, you should talk with your health care provider.The benefits of these fatty acids are too many not to make sure you get them in your body.In addition to their health benefits, the University of California found they even slow aging! They conducted a study and found participants who got plenty of omega 3's actually aged slower than the participants who didn't get enough of these fatty acids.The research is there. So, whether you decide to eat more fish or take a fish oil supplement, you want to make sure you're getting a pure product.
