Solar panels are a great way to reduce energy consumption. They are usually installed on rooftops and are a great solution if electric bills are getting harder to keep up to. Solar energy panels work by collect solar power and turning it into electricity to power you home. There are generally only two solar energy panel types: solar panels that heat water and panels that produce electricity. If you want to install solar energy panels to use at your home you should probably look towards panels that produce electricity. These panels are called photovoltaic panels and are light and compact. Because of this they can be supported by the roofing of a standard residential structure. They can also be used to power boats, RV's or detached garages or barns. Commercial buildings usually use thermal panels. The bulk of solar panel cost is the installation. This installation can set you back as much as 30 grand. This is more than some people make in one year and you probably don't have all that money lying around. However, if you have some basic building skills, you can build an entire system with as little as $500 by using DIY kits.If that is still expensive you can save even more by building your panels from scratch. The materials used are common and most of them can be found at your local hardware store. If you cannot find the very important photovoltaic cells in your hardware store you should try buying them online. This way you may even save a lot of money. |
