-Henry Ford said, "You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars."I'm sure you agree that bags of enthusiasm really get you started in a new business, or career.-Then Ford goes on to say, "Enthusiasm is at the bottom of all progress. With it, there is accomplishment. Without it, there are only alibis."And one by one the bags of enthusiasm get emptied out into the business and there seems to be no topping up of enthusiasm because it becomes a job. Although worse than a job because you lie awake at night counting the problems you've got, working out how to fix them and re-awakening to the same problems day after day after day.I've often talked with business owners who feel as though their company just can't run without them. Everyone needs to work in their business and yet many work excessive hours in their business. Hours they could spend with their loved ones.Yes, I've heard the argument that "my business is my hobby" and my return has always been, "Why are you doing this business? Is it to support your family, is it for your ego, is it to leave your mark?"Because in the end business is a moving parade. You could run the biggest business in the world, yet one day it could be superseded and then be bought out or go bankrupt. Whether you've there or not the business world moves on.Even Richard Branson who is arguably the most well know business person (along with Donald Trump) in the world will eventually stop being associated with Virgin. It may be when he hands it over to his offspring, or when he dies, or when the businesses are split up and bought , because no one will run the business the same way as Branson does.Either way it's important to know what your own life goals are. That means your personal goals as well as your business goals.Jim Symcox coaches business through to higher and easier profits. Business doesn't need to be tough!
