My Wife's Tip for a Happy, Fulfilling Life

One of the most frequently asked questions I get here at the DCT is "how do you come up with the ideas for your tips?" The truth is, many days, they write themselves - whatever I've been thinking about or working on blends with whatever has been going on in my life or the lives of my clients, and a tip emerges fully-formed from the womb of my mind. Other days, I scan my bookshelves awaiting inspiration, and in time a book title will trigger a memory which leads to an idea which ultimately becomes a tip. Then there's today! I've been in bed with flu, my basement office has flooded (despite thousands of dollars spent to prevent it), the world and its wife want us to sue the previous owners of the house (despite our having genuinely thought we could live in America for at least a year before becoming card-carrying members of the most litigious society in the world), and I was feeling both uninspired and uninspirational.Fortunately for me, I not only write these tips, I occasionally make time to read them (:-), and round about DCT 21, I found what I was looking for. One of the seven myths of success I have identified over the last decade is "It only counts if I do it myself." The antidote - "Ask for help as often as you can."So I asked my wife what she would write a tip about if it was up to her. To my delight but not surprise, she came up with the idea for the following tip, and our children and I can vouch for the fact that she not only means it, she lives it, and we benefit from it every single day of our lives. Here's my wife's two-part tip for a happy, fulfilling life:1. The more love you give, the more love you have to give.2. She who dies with the most love wins.1. Take a moment to love and appreciate whatever it is you love and appreciate about yourself. Now expand that love to include your immediate family, your close friends, continue expanding the love to include what you love and appreciate about your home, your neighborhood, your community, your country, your part of the world, your planet, your universe, and whatever concept of the word "God" or "Spirit" or "Unconditional Love" you find meaningful to you.2. Now open up to receive that love back, knowing that the mathematics of love is exponential and whatever you give away comes back multiplied. Imagine the love that God/Spirit/Unconditional Love has for you; imagine being loved by the universe, by the earth, and by your part of the world.Open up to the idea of being loved by your country, loved and appreciated by your community, by your neighborhood, imagine the love in your home, and being loved and appreciated by your closest friends and family, finishing once again by really feeling the love and appreciation you have for whatever it is you love and appreciate about yourself.3. Remember that this feeling can be yours whenever you want to focus on it.4. Enjoy it!Have fun and love heaps!Michael Neill is a licensed Master Trainer of NLP and has written over 550 articles in the areas of business success, money, relationships, health, happiness, well-being, and spirituality.
