"Attachment to certain beliefs can create a false illusion of what we're truly capable of. Detachment from these same beliefs will free you to explore your true capacity." - David MartinAs an athlete, I was introduced to a technique to increase flexibility called, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation or PNF or Isometric Stretching. The technique allows major increases in flexibility and can assists in recovery from injuries. You are contracting your muscles to expand their flexibility. How it works (make sure to consult with your health professional before attempting any exercise. The following is to illustrate a concept and is not to be construed as advice):Sitting in a hurdler's stretch (one leg pulled back), you would lean forward trying to touch your head to your knee. After you reach your maximum stretch, back off a bit, then flex your hamstring as if you're trying to pull your heel into the ground.Hold it for 15 - 30 seconds. Then relax the muscle and stretch your head to your knee again. You'll find that you can go much further this time, possibly all the way, depending on what level you were already at.So, what does this have to do with your performance? And, how can it assist you to move toward your goals?Simple, contract your mind to expand your possibilities.Get rid of the JUNK! Too much going on, too many goals, too much "stuff" to focus on, can divert your energies and actually hinder your progress. When you squeeze the non-essential clutter out of your mind, you make room to expand your mindset. One of the concepts I recommend to my members & clients is this. After you clearly define your goals, select THREE to concentrate your energies on for the remainder of the year. That's it...three.By doing this, you'll make faster progress toward all of your goals because you'll invoke the principle of Collateral Success. That means you'll still achieve the other goals due to the effort you're making to the main goals. So, "Contract To Expand". You'll find results pour in faster than you can imagine.Success is achieved by those who prepare in advance.Entrepreneur, Visionary, Motivator, Entertainer, Agent of Change & Master Performance Coach ... he has been called all of these and more. David Martin combines over 30 years of "in the trenches" experience to bring you a no-nonsense, get to the point, create results NOW methodology that has become known as Performance Coaching Systems.
