I admit it...getting testimonials is the one thing about copywriting that I don't like. The reason is because it's the one part of the sales copy that I really can't write. Well, I could, but then it would be pure fiction and we all know how bad that can be for your reputation. So I make sure that when I do get testimonials they're as good as possible. How do I do it? I am going to share with you my 3 prize tips for getting great testimonials. These should take the fear of getting testimonials away permanently. The first and best way to get great testimonials is to plan for them. How do you do this? It's very easy. What I do is go through the product that I am promoting and write down some items that pertain to the product. I then turn these items into questions for the person giving the testimonial. For example, I might have some general questions like, "Did you like the product?" I will also have specific questions like, "What were your feelings regarding chapter 8 on Safelists?" I want to get as much info from the person as possible. Then after my questions, I will have one final box for them to make any additional comments. The second thing is to make sure that you ask them if they will allow you to arrange their information in a way that will make it easier to read. I assure them that I won't change the content but will only rewrite things so that they are more clear. I will of course also ask if I can make an grammar or spelling changes that I feel are necessary. Most people will be more than happy to allow you to make any changes you like, especially when at the end of the testimonial is a link to their web site. Let's be honest, this is free publicity for them as well. Finally, I make sure that the people I ask for testimonials are actually people who would have an interest in the product I am coming out with. It doesn't make sense to have a person read your book on caring for your cat if they don't have a cat or even dislike animals. It certainly can't be a glowing, if even accurate review. So when you put your product out there to be reviewed, make sure it's to an audience that is actually a target market as well.By following these simple tips, you should have no trouble getting great testimonials for your sales copy. For more great copywriting tips, check out the resource in my signature.
