Let me state for the record, NONE of us is perfect. I certainly make my share of mistakes. The difference between those who are successful and those who have not yet made it to the level of success that they want is learning from those mistakes. When I make a mistake, I make a note of it and vow to do my best to never make that mistake again. This applies to everything in my life...especially in my copywriting. So I am now presenting you with a list of copywriting mistakes that I hope you will learn not to make. One of the biggest mistakes I used to make as a copywriter was poor formatting. My sales pages looked like absolute garbage, and people told me so. It didn't matter how good or bad the writing was. I used fonts that were tool small, bad spacing, ugly screen prints and way too many things to go into here. So let me make this simple and to the point. If your sales page doesn't look as professional as possible, you are leaving money on the table...and not everybody is going to be nice enough to tell you. I was lucky.Another big mistake I used to make was using headlines that didn't focus on the benefits that the person would get from the product. I'd figure that just putting the name of my product and the shiny words, "New" would be enough to get people to buy. Forget it! Your headline is 80% of the reason why your prospects buy from you. If you lose them at the headline, you've probably lost them for good.Another very big mistake I used to make was telling people they could "buy" my product for just, and whatever the price was. You NEVER use the word "buy" in sales copy. This reminds prospects that they are spending money and nobody wants to be reminded that they are spending money. Finally, when it would get to the closing of my sales copy, I would finish with something stupid like, "You can get your copy by clicking on the link below." That is one of the worst calls to action that I have ever read when it comes to sales copy and I can't believe how many people actually use it. You need to literally put the words into the prospect's mouth, "Yes, I want this NOW!" Otherwise, you're not doing your job. These mistakes are just the tip of a very big iceberg, but they should get you started on your way to writing really solid sales copy.
