Including an interview in your podcast is one way to make it more interesting to listen to, however, many podcasters will damage the reputation of their guest expert - and the effectiveness of their podcast - simply because they make common interview mistakes. In this tip, you'll discover how to avoid inserting phony replies so you can sound genuinely interested in what your guest is saying.Don't be fake with your replies. As an interviewer or host, you'll be tempted to say positive one-words after your guest makes a point. In podcast interviews, it's not unusual to hear the host say the following words while his or her guest is speaking:"That's amazing!"
"Wow!"
"That's interesting!"
"I didn't know that!"
"Are you kidding me?"
"Are you serious?" Most times, when the interviewer says these things, it's as if he or she was daydreaming about something else, heard a pause and then blurted out a statement just to show he or she was listening. Unfortunately, these statements make you sound fake and phony, especially if you didn't find the response from your guest that interesting in the first place. If your guest pauses to take a breath while responding to your question, rather than blurt out a silly, fake reply, bite your tongue. Wait for your guest to fully finish his or her response, then provide a few words to sum up what your guest was saying. This will make you sound more intelligent and engaged in the interview.Leesa Barnes teaches insider tips on how to use podcasts to open doors, generate leads and make more-money.
