Everyday Life is Askew in Every Possible Way AnymoreEverybody is being thrown off balance these days - tossed back and forth between what's familiar and something that makes no sense at all. I call this widespread disorientation a Spiritual Hangover because your very footing is unstable.Behind it is a surge of unfamiliar energy. It shakes the cobwebs loose in your brain. First it knocks you out of your "tried and true" routines so you feel the need to try new things. Then it triggers newfound creativity and insights you never would have thought of.What Is Shifting?
Everything on every level - tangible and intangible; alive and inanimate; personal and organizational; significant and trivial; short-term and long-term. These tremors now registering on our internal radar are mostly below conscious awareness. But each of us will become much more adept at flowing with them.- On the Surface
You first notice tiny shifts - irregularities and matters in need of adjustment. They intrude into your awareness. The expected result doesn't happen. They slap you in the face with contradictions. Wherever you look, people are behaving strangely. Well-laid plans turn out to be no more predictable than random events. Routines seem erratic.- Very Deep
The real cracks in your reality are far below the surface. Like the center of the earth, shifts won't be noticed directly at the surface level. But subterranean re-alignments trigger tremors that make volcanoes belch, earthquakes rumble, and tsunamis send a watery wall... Then we notice. Your fundamental core is similarly unsettled, so everything else must readjust as well.- You Personally
This disorientation affects all your primary concerns, which in turn influence everything going on in your life. Many of your never-unquestioned beliefs and assumptions are collapsing because they no longer add up. Your confidence in them is shaken, so they must be re-examined and adjusted.- Social Organizations
Long-ignored causes for alarm keep coming to light. Such disturbing revelations undermine our basic religious, national, and cultural norms. Scandals, graft, ethical lapses, greed, abuse of power, and routine injustices compel us as a group to take a hard look at our fundamental values, desires, and responsibilities.Every type of institution is in turmoil - from the family, to education, to government, to business, to religion, to sports (you name it). Clashes between established power blocks and fresh voices play out on every level. Vision and principled leadership are in short supply. Organizations that cannot find a way to reinvent themselves in responsible ways are in danger of collapse. Or worse - irrelevance.
- Humanity Itself
Who are we? What's common to us all? What's our duty to each other? And to the world we share? Abstract philosophical questions have become pressing "in your face" concerns. Does a word like "outsourcing" put a face on an Indian peasant making pennies an hour? How much do you feel directly involved in concerns beyond your self-contained world? The size of the world continues to shrink as travel and communication advances provide ever-more, ever-faster choices. "Remote" isn't a significant drawback anymore. Air travel makes any place a plane ride away. Telephones and wireless devices carry our words to anyone (or everyone) who'd care to know them in seconds. TV and satellites deliver the latest news as quickly as it happens. The Internet lets us track down any kind of information in moments, no matter how exotic. It's easy to locate like-minded people, which is redefining what we mean by "community."- The Notion of What is Possible
Long-held assumptions and limitations are falling away. Numerous unforeseen possibilities present individual and groups a fresh paradigm for living on a larger scale, one yet to be named or defined. The emerging worldview will impinge on every aspect of our culture, as well as our personal choices. It will open doors to entirely unprecedented solutions to the world's problems. Along with novel ways of arriving at them. The Spiritual Hangover is a Force for Healthy Change
The answers to come will be less rational or limited to practicalities. They'll be broader in scope and brilliant in their effectiveness. What we accomplish will engage the full scope of our emerging talents in creative and enjoyable ways. For this high-vibration energy unleashes our new abilities and preferences.Instead of being disheartened by so many things around you that aren't working, it's time to see this turmoil as a sign of progress. As an opportunity to change your gears and "clean house." Just to recognize it as positive will help you flow with the energetic changes, rather than resisting them. Brace yourself for the ride of your life because there's no stopping it!
