There once was a cynical farmer who was tired of being told how to grow his crops and manage his farm. They knew nothing about his particular plot of land. Then again, those people were the only ones to talk to for miles around. Like most people who are bored with there life, that farmer really wanted to meet new people and get some advice from a real expert. One day he read in the newspaper that a traveling antique appraisal fair was coming to a nearby town. This was his chance to hear about more than how to grow his crops. The farmer searched his house for anything that he could bring to that fair, but he was as poor as a farmer could be.After a few hours of searching, the farmer found a bronze steer and a ceramic rooster. That wasn't much to show for a lifetime of work, but it's a good reason for going to the fair. Right off he knew that they weren't worth much, but going to the fair is all that the poor man could afford. On the day of the antique fair the farmer walked the twenty miles to town, and after waiting in line for two hours he finally had his chance to talk to that expert. He proudly placed his bronze steer and his ceramic rooster on the table and asked for an honest determination of the worth of his items. The antique expert told the farmer that his items weren't worth, on a good day, more than a buck each. Then, the farmer asked what they were worth on a bad day.The expert offered a buck for the lot and hoped the farmer would leave so he could see some other items. The farmer asked for a buck and a half. The expert then offered fifty cents and then asked the farmer why he wasted his time to bring such worthless junk to the fair. The farmer said that he wanted to hear a cock and bull story from a real expert, and that's what he got.
