Aristotle (384BC- 322BC) once said, "Happiness depends on ourselves." And he was right, you know. Our thoughts pretty much decide what or how we are going to be. We control our thoughts (for the most part) so by altering our thought pattern we can determine our mindset and mood.Did you know that being happy is also good for your health ? Studies have shown that being happy releases hormones called endorphins that help reduce pain and the stress we encounter in our daily lives. Stress is linked to illnesses like heart disease, cancer and stroke. Isn't all that reason enough to want to snatch al the happiness that we can?Happiness is a state of being that we would all like to achieve every waking second of our lives, unfortunately, there are people for whom achieving happiness is difficult. However there are ways to achieve happiness that will work if applied the right way.Anybody can be happy in his or her life, sometimes it is just a matter of deciding to be happy or allowing happiness to play a bigger role in your life. In this article we discuss 10 things you can do to bring more happiness into your life.1) Love yourself. Loving yourself is not about egos or bragging about your achievements. Loving yourself means accepting who you are and acknowledging that you do have some flaws, and having the courage to fix those flaws.2) Have a circle of close friends. Having a few close friends means you're not alone when you need some advice or someone to share a coffee or lunch with or go to the movies or the pub with. Maybe you could use a shoulder to cry on once in a while. Even happy people do occasionally get the blues.3) Take care of your spiritual self. I am referring here to the state of a person's emotions. Are you in good spirits today? Feeling good about yourself is an excellent way to lift the spirits and be a happier person.4) Use time wisely. Time is too precious and valuable to waste. After all, nobody really knows how much time they have to enjoy being alive. Make the best of each and every moment of each and every day. 'Don't Worry, Be Happy,' is how Bobby McFerrin put it in his song of the same name and that sums it up nicely.5.Life is stressful enough without being constantly subjected to the bad news in the media. Get less stress in your life by teaching yourself not to react to the bad news on the TV or in the daily paper. If it didn't happen to you or someone close to you, it is not yours to worry about.6.Find something to laugh about. Someone to tell you a joke or think of something that made you laugh. Being happy and laughing releases that feel good hormone endorphin into your bloodstream, reducing pain and giving you a natural high. Laughter really is the best medicine.7.Express your feelings, love, anger, hate. Don't keep your frustrations bottled up inside you. Give them release through sharing them or working off bad feelings by going for a walk or a run. Once again endorphins are released in times of stress and working out or using relaxation techniques to rid yourself of this stress is better for health and happiness.8. Working hard engenders a personal sense of satisfaction of a job well done, a task completed or a chore out of the way. Achievement gives us a wonderful sense of ourselves and increases our sense of self worth.9. Challenge yourself to learn or try something new everyday. Learning broadens your horizons and brings a new feeling of pleasure in knowing that you have accomplished something you set out to do and you now have something new to share with others.10. Avoid people with a negative mindset and places where you will be subjected to annoyances and stress. You have enough stress to deal with in your own life. You don't need to take on the stress of others as well."True happiness is of a retired nature and an enemy to pomp and noise; it arises from the enjoyment of one's self and in the next from the friendship and conversation of a few select companions." Joseph Addison, English essayist (1672-1719) Word count: 779
