Mike Trivisonno wants Jim Tressel to come to Cleveland. The popular and opinionated talk show host on Cleveland’s 1100 WTAM is convinced that with all of the Browns’ recent problems that a change needs to be made. Triv says that Tressel, the current head coach for the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes, has that special “X-factor” that every great coach must have. While I am not certain that Tressel would translate into a successful NFL head coach, Tressel himself has been clear in the many quotes where he says that he isn’t sure either. No matter what, Cleveland Browns fans who also follow Ohio State, or are at least aware of their success (and trust me, it is not possible to live in Ohio and not be drenched with news about the Buckeyes), have to be intrigued by the possibility. One thing is certain about Tressel; he’s a proven winner. After multiple Division I-AA National Championships at Youngstown State and a Division I-A National Championship with Ohio State in 2002, Tressel has his Buckeyes in the 2006-2007 BCS National Championship Bowl game on January 8th. Should Tressel win his second National Championships with OSU in 6 years as head coach, would “Senator Tressel” consider taking the next step? While the Ohio State head coaching job is about as close to the top as it gets in the world of college football, the NFL is a bigger, and better, game of football with even more money. Time will tell if Trivisonno can open Browns-owner Randy Lerner’s ears, but it sure will be interesting to see it play out.
