Turn Your New Year's Resolutions to Lose Weight Into Reality

While struggling to lose weight and keep it off, I clearly remember all those times I would start the year by setting my New Year's resolution to lose all my excess weight by my birthday on May 13th. I would envision myself looking down at the scale and smiling at the significantly lower number staring back at me with pride than the starting number I would look at with disdain at the start of the year.

Yet somehow with each passing year, the number of pounds I would need to lose by my birthday seemed to be getting bigger and bigger. It finally occurred to me that what I was doing was clearly NOT working. Remember the definition of insanity? Insanity is when you do the same thing over and over and expect different results. Well, I finally decided to smarten up out of my state of insanity.

If you've been making the same New Year's resolution year after year to lose weight and get in shape, then why not make this year YOUR year to smarten up and FINALLY turn your resolution to lose weight and keep it off into reality. Here are three solutions to get you started that really worked for me without diets, pills and gimmicks and without going hungry or feeling deprived.

1. Quit the Quick Fix: Stop going on and off diets, pills, shakes and menu plans that promise fast and easy results. If it says "fast and easy", run for the hills. You may get quick results, but they won't last. Instead, take it slow and steady.
2. Lighten up: Be kinder and more forgiving toward yourself. Taking the pressure off to be perfect all the time will help you lighten up long-term for a healthier body and happier heart.
