What is a PPC Search Engine?

A PPC search engine is similar to a normal search engine; the only difference is that it yields results that are business and product related. It offers an excellent mechanism to get cheap, targeted traffic.
If you are an advertiser, you need to open an account and deposit some money as a starting balance, with the search engine. Then, you can enter your site's URL, title, and description and bid on keywords that are relevant to your business or product. When a user searches the web, using the keywords you have used, the details of your site will appear in the search result page, along with the normal search results list. If the user then clicks on your listing, the amount you have bid on that keyword is debited to your account.
The title used on the advertisement usually includes your website's name or a short heading, of approximately 50 characters. It also includes a short description of your website, product, service, or some promotional texts, which cannot be more than 200 characters long. The text to be used in the title and description depends solely on the discretion of the PPC search engines. A few of them strictly control the text that can appear in the listing, while others accept the text provided by the advertiser.
You can categorise PPC engines into "Keyword", "Product", or "Service" engines. Sometimes, a company may cater to two or more categories.
How is a ‘Keyword PPC’ Different From a ‘Product PPC’ or ‘Service PPC’?
Advertisers who post their advertisements on a Keyword PPC bid on "keywords". Keywords are words or phrases or can even be product model numbers. When a user searches for a particular word or phrase, the list of advertiser links appears in order of bidding. Examples of a few PPC Keyword search engines are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, GaZabo.com, Miva, SearchFeed, Enhance, GoClick, 7Search, Kanoodle, ePilot, Search123, Kazazz, Pricethat, and Search FAST.When advertisers post their advertisements on a Product or Service search engine, they can link their product or service database/website with the advertisement text box. When users search for similar products or services, links to advertisements for that particular business appear. This way, advertisers may end up paying more if the number of clicks on the advertisement is more, but users have the privilege to sort the products and services by price, compare the prices, and decide on the product.A few PPC Product search engines are BizRate, NexTag, PriceGrabber, Pricescan, Pricethat, Pricewatch, PriceLeap, and Shopping.com. Some PPC Services search engines include NexTag, Pricethat SideStep, and TripAdvisor.
