Weight Loss - Lose Weight With Protein Shakes - Troubleshooting Part 1

High protein meal replacement shakes are a great way to lose weight effectively and economically without the hunger that often accompanies other diet programs. However, any time you change your diet particularly when you improve it, you may experience some adverse changes in the way you feel.

"I Feel Tired and Weak"

People who start on protein meal replacement shakes often experience an energy boost from the very first day; however, some may have an opposite reaction. With some folks their overeating stimulates their nervous system like caffeine and causes sweating and an increase in pulse rate. If this has been going on for a while it becomes the norm and they just accept this as a normal part of living.

Now all of a sudden things change when they start eating a healthy diet with proper nutrition. Their system is not used to this new 'fuel' and it reacts by making them feel tired and weak with little energy. The answer is to get proper rest and sleep and soon their energy will return.

Another reason someone may feel dragged out is because they don't take their meal replacement shakes at regular times. This may be due to skipping a meal thinking that you will lose weight faster. However, this often has a negative effect because you end up eating more trying to recover from the fatigue caused by missing a meal. Skipping meals is counterproductive because your body thinks it's time to prepare for a famine. So to prepare for this perceived lack of food it starts to shift into preservation mode by lowering the metabolism and conserving energy.

"I'm Not Regular"

Along with an energy level change, a change in diet can also affect your digestive system. You may find that your bowel movements are not regular or you may experience excess gas. The answer here to consume 25 grams of fiber preferably from fruits and vegetables but if you can't get it from these foods then there are fiber supplements that contain a mixture of soluble and insoluble fibers that will put you back on track. Some of the newer fibers can be mixed into beverages and will give 5 grams of fiber per tablespoon without having any gritty taste.
