To benefit from your articles you should avoid these 6 common article marketing mistakes. The purpose of writing articles is to drive traffic to your site. Your article needs to be informative and catch the readers' attention so they click on the link to your site from the resource box. If your article has these 6 common article marketing mistakes the chances of that happening are very limited.

1. Submitting Private Label Rights (PLR) content
Your articles should be original material that you own the full rights. Submitting PLR content is likely to get you suspended from the sites that you are submitting to.

2. Trying too hard
You are not writing a dissertation or trying to pass any exams here. Keep it simple. Short paragraphs of only a few sentences. Use language that can be understood by a wide range of people. Make it easy for your readers as you don't want them to click the red x at the top of the page. Be concise with your information and don't make your article too long or too short.

3. Submitting to numerous article directories
At one time it was recommended that articles are submitted to as many article directories as possible. People have used specific software for this purpose. This is no longer the case and can result in your article being rejected on the grounds of it being 'duplicate content'. Choose one or two of the top directories to submit to and re-write your article each time you want to submit it somewhere else.

4. Including links to your website within the main body of the article
The article body should only be used to provide relevant, quality information for your readers. It is considered to be poor marketing practice to have links to your site there as well. The place to insert your links is in the resource box.

5. Writing your article so it reads like a sales page
As already mentioned, your article is to provide information and should not be used as a sales pitch. You are highly unlikely to get your article published by anyone else if it reads as a sales letter. Your readers will not appreciate it either. They have seen the title of your article and decided to read it because they are looking for information. The place to sell is in your resource box.

6. Not injecting some of your personality into the article
You are providing information or a solution to a problem so make it interesting for your audience. If appropriate add a bit of humour and provide the information in such a way that the reader can picture the benefits they will gain. By adding some of your own personality your readers may feel a connection with you and get to like and trust you. This means you are more likely to get the sales you want.

When you have finished writing your article re-read it and correct any spelling and grammar mistakes or get somebody to proofread it for you.

Take your time to read the guidelines for each of the article directories that you are submitting them to. Write for your readers as if you were talking about your subject over a cup of coffee with a friend.

Do everything you can to avoid these mistakes. If done properly you will soon see results from your efforts.
