Juicing - 7 Tips For Preparing Healthy Drinks

Juicing is a healthy and tasty way of getting the essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients that we all need. But you'll need to prepare your vegetables and fruit correctly in order to get the maximum nutritional value from them. Here are 7 tips to help you.

1) Use Organic Produce - Organic fruit and vegetables have been prepared without artificial chemicals and fertilizers. Many people are concerned that regular exposure to low doses of these chemicals can be bad for your health.

2) Wash Produce - Always wash your produce before use. This will remove dirt and any chemical residues from the surface. This is particularly important if you have not been able to buy organic produce.

3) Farmer's markets - If you have a local farmers market in your town, then you should visit it. Not only are you supporting your local economy but you have a chance to speak to the people that actually cultivated your food. This can be fascinating. Many of these farmers are passionate about creating healthy and tasty food that is just not possible when using mass-cultivation techniques.

4) Peeling - many fruits can be put into your juicer with the peel on. An exception to this is citrus fruit such as grapefruit and oranges. These should be peeled and then put into the juicer with their pith on. Another fruit to peel is mangoes.

5) Pips - It is perfectly OK to put the pips from fruit like oranges and pomegranates into your juicer. Large stones should be removed e.g. from a mangoes and peaches.

6) Green Leaves - Vegetables such as spinach can be used to make a very nutritious juice. You need to wash them thoroughly before use and then use a salad spinner to remove excess water.

7) Retain Nutrients- You can ensure that your produce has the highest nutritional value by using fresh fruit and vegetables and only preparing it when you are ready to drink it. As soon as produce is sliced or diced, it starts to lose nutrients like vitamin C.
