Interval Training Works For Me - Learn How Interval Training Helps You Get Lean And Lose Weight Fast

Interval training or sprint training is a type of exercise workout where you alternate short high intensity training "sprints" with a slower / lower intensity exercise recovery periods.
If you have been exercising for a while you have probably heard many fitness experts talk about getting into the "fat burning" zone and staying there for a period of time during each workout so that you can lose weight or fat.
Well, new clinical studies are showing that doing steady state cardio for fat burning is not as effective as interval training if you want to see real fat loss, leaner physiques and faster results.
Which scenario sounds better to you?
1-Walk 30 minutes at a steady moderate rate and you can burn up about 100 calories.
or
2-Do a 30 minute walk but after you warm up for 3-4 minutes you alternate 8 thirty second walking or jogging sprints with recovery walking. With this workout you will burn over 150 calories during your workout.
Now the calorie difference may not seem like much (although it does add up over time).
What really is cool about interval training is that it makes all your muscles engage at a much higher intensity (including your heart!) so you increase your lean muscle much more than if you just walked at a steady moderate pace.
In addition, for the participants in the clinical training that did the interval training workouts, their metabolism and calorie burning were much higher for 24 hours following the interval training workout.
However, for the clinical study participants who walked steady state in the "fat burning" zone - they basically burned calories only during the workout and the other 23 hours of the day their metabolism was not much higher than if they had not worked out at all.
So interval training has some great benefits:
- Burns more calories during your workout
- Burns more calories in the hours following your workout
- Makes your body engage muscle groups much more than a traditional steady state cardio routine so you build more lean muscle mass. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat so you having more muscle means you will burn more calories throughout the day and night.
If you are out of shape or have never done any interval training, you may want to start by adding 2 - 3 high intensity intervals per workout and then work up to 8 - 10 per workout.
Of course, check with your doctor before you begin any exercise program.
Then get off your lazy boy chair and go for it! Get faster weight loss and get fit in less time with interval training.
