How to Be Happy Despite Your Bank Account - Recession Proof Your Happiness

"Your happiness should not be related to your bank account balance."So I started a debate between myself and my parents. They were arguing the point that there is no way you can be happy if you are having financial difficulties. Do not get me wrong. I see their point. I used to agree with their point of view. I would say that 99.9 percent of the population (especially in America) believes this to be true (that is another article).I simply, do not.I believe that your happiness does not have to be tied to your bank account balance. Certainly, you should feel happier and freer the more money you have. But this is sadly not the case. There are multi-millionaires that are sad. How do I know this? Because I happen to know a few myself. Could it be that we, as a society put to much "worth" in material gain?Instead of debating with me on this point, wouldn't it help to at least listen with an open mind? You have nothing to lose and your happiness to gain. I myself am not offended if, in the end, you still do not agree with me. I respect that you have your own opinions and thoughts. But many people are so closely related to their opinions they lose sight of the fact that it is still just their opinion. When you allow room for another's opinion to be placed next to yours, you allow room for happiness in your life. The amazing thing about learning this principle is that once you learn it and "see" the Truth you will never go back. How do I know this?Because as soon as I saw this Truth I became happy, almost overnight, and I have not been sad since. Now life has still been challenging to me and I have had moments when I am frustrated or irritated. That will never go away. Instead, in place of any sadness, is an amazing understanding and compassion for others. So what is this Truth? Therein lies the challenge. For, to truly see the Truth you must come to it on your own. That is one reason why I am not offended if others don't agree with me. If you have seen City Slickers, it is that scene when Curly says to him --Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is? [holds up one finger] This. Mitch: Your finger? Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean s***. Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?" Curly: That's what you have to find out.Jennifer Janelle Mix-Hickman
