Search smarter, Find it faster, Get personal. Statements precisely describing the New Yahoo look. After the Search giant successfully launched an addition to its growing global community –Yahoo Philippines, it also updated its contents and features. As Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang put it in his intro video, they are out to make their “Slice of the Web” relevant to YOU.And why not, Yahoo’s piece of cake represents the second largest in its market. Behind only by a 10% Google margin in audience reach (Nielsen/NetRatings). Personalizing the site for its users may just give them the edge to be no.1. “Make yourself at Home again” Yang states. Surfers may do just that. Innovation includes:
a. Handy tabs to narrow user search –prominent is the “local” tab which allows surfers to search businesses and services via address, city, state, or zip codes.
b. Yahoo Answers - described as a place to get “Real answers” from “Real people”, functions as a forum for users to exchange insights on relevant information.
c. User Favorites – all Yahoo services at a click of an icon, alphabetized for quick scanning, and a “coming soon” edit feature removing user’s lesser choices.
b. Personal Assistant- a virtual “PA” that gives users options to use emails, IM’s (instant messaging), radio, local weather, traffic, and events.Although it’s still in its testing stages, this new look has Yahoo executives hoping it will cause them to have an even bigger piece of the whole Web cake, as individuals, businesses, and professionals turn to its services. As of now, no one has yet predicted the impact this could have in the info savvy community. A word of caution though, there might be a small let down if your browsers fall a bit below Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 1.5. “Sneak Preview” home button seem to only works with these, and Opera users are asked to check back in a couple of weeks as Yahoo plans to “support additional browsers soon”. Good news is, they will have it up and running, so all can sneak a peek at it.
