The Gratitude Attitude

Many of us go through life or have gone through life wishing and hoping for something better. The grass is greener on the other side, she has a bigger piece of pie than you, he always gets to the nicer car, she has all the luck. The comparisons go on and on and on. If we are always looking at what we don't have and focusing on our lack or victomhood that is what we create in our lives.I had a client who was venting about the things that were not going the way she wanted them to go and started comparing her success to others. She was not in a happy place. My question to her was "What in your life right now are you grateful for?" She started to list a few things then the list started to grow. She continued to add to the list and she agreed to list 3 things she was grateful for each night for the next week. At our next session, she related the many positive and fun opportunities that had come her way.Acknowledging what we are grateful for right now sends out a positive message to the universe so when we set our intention of what we want it is anchored in gratitude of the moment and of what we are blessed with already. As we see the many blessings in our life, more blessings will come our way. Of course the universe will provide for us on its schedule not ours. My husband and I have a friend who is working in Ethiopia for the Clinton Foundation to help organize their health delivery system and set up training programs for basic hygienic care. One of the hospitals he is working for has no- nada-toilets in the entire hospital. That made me extremely and eternally grateful for indoor plumbing and especially the commode and hot running water. I always want that as part of my life. If you are not grateful for what is in your life right now then there isn't room for anything more except more of the same wanting of something. What is your vision? It may be more money- then list what you are able to do with the money you have right now and I invite you to view the list through the lens of gratitude. Play around with this idea and let me know how it works for you.
