The rate at which technology is advancing is opening up new opportunities to gain a large audience. Podcasting is simply broadcasting an mp3 on a website that people can download and listen to. It has been said to be the audio version of blogging. What makes it unique is that many programs will let you subscribe to the podcast, and every time a new podcast is release by that publisher the program automatically downloads the podcast. What really tops it off is that these programs also automatically place the podcast on the listeners mp3 player the next time that they plug it in to the computer. So with this new super fast and efficient way of information sharing comes a whole new area of marketing. Many people are submitting their podcasts in hopes of gaining subscribers that they can market other offers to. It is almost like a secondary list. You have your main list that you send information and offers to, and you have your list of podcast subscribers who listen to your podcasts. Most of the two lists will overlap from cross promoting your website with you podcasts and vice versa. You may find that some people respond to the emails better while others respond to the podcasts better. This is another benefit to using both to market to your audience. Your main hope with using podcasting for getting more traffic is that users will find your podcast and then visit your website after listening. This is why you want to make sure that your podcast is professional and worth your effort. Give the listener what they want, and make them want to see what else you have to offer.
