If you're thinking of losing weight like millions of other people do every day then there's going to be two main options for you. Firstly you can follow the crowd and get the same results as everyone else... short term weight loss and then a sudden increase in weight when the diet fails and you lose interest, or you can take the other option.

This second option isn't as sexy or as glamorous as the first one. You won't drop a dress size in a week or have to change absolutely nothing in your life other than popping a few pills or guzzling down the latest miracle weight loss solution in order to get results.

No, the second way won't have you dashing out to the shops after a few days to buy a whole new wardrobe, but let's be honest here, there isn't a solution like this that works. If there was we'd all be in fantastic shape all the time.

The problem with option one is that it promises the world but gives you nothing but a hole in your pocket. It strips you of any pride or satisfaction and worst of all sets you up for a lifetime of rollercoaster yo-yo dieting.

However option two is the one that most people shy away from, knowing that results won't be instant. Even though they understand that it does work and that it's been proven to be effective since the dawn of time, still the promise of fast weight loss always draws them away from the right path.

So what is option two. Well it's actually a very easy way to lose weight, but it does involve patience. You need to take three simple steps...

#1 Get started. Yes that sounds obvious I know, but it's amazing how many people expect to see results without actually doing anything to bring about those results. I strongly recommend against doing what everyone else does here by filling up every spare minute with exercise that you hate. Instead add a little sport or activity in to your life maybe once or twice a week. Walking might be all you do, but if that's more than you normally do then it's going to have an effect.

#2 Don't get rid of all your favourite foods at once. You can be sure if you ban all the foods that you really love eating, then these will be the ones that you'll crave the most. Instead you should just limit eating these things to once in a while instead of them being a staple part of your everyday diet.

#3 Don't let it take over your life, make it fit around your life. Ideally you'll be looking at this with an eye to long term success and this can only be achieved by making a new life based around the changes you're making. So if you don't feel that you can maintain any of the things you're doing, then it's time you rethought the whole strategy.

Doing something that you hate simply to get results is never going to be a long term solution. What you need to do is try a few different things until you hit upon something that you really like doing and actually look forward to doing. If it's sociable and active then than is an ideal choice as there will always be the others there to motivate and encourage you if you're having a bad day.

Remember these tips are for those who want the long term approach to weight loss and realise that everything worth having takes a little patience and commitment.
