Tennis Confidence?
You don't need to know the exact science behind what makes some people more confident than others, but you know how important it is. How did Borg, McEnroe, Evert, Navratilova, Lendl, Graf, Sampras, Agassi, Hennin, Federer, Venus, Serena, Rafa etc come up with the big plays when it really mattered?
Why did you expect them to do it?
Also, why did (names omitted to spare the players in question) alsways seem to get so far but when it really mattered always seem to fall apart?
Confidence!!
Why do some have it and most don't?
Like I said, you don't need to know the exact science behind confidence, but you do need to understand the "tricks of the trade" and be working on improving yours. One of those is preparation.
Why is preparation so important? It helps to develop your muscle memory which allows you to deliver skills at an unconscious level - without thinking about it.
Preparation (if done correctly) also allows you to adjust.
If option A isn't available you can quickly switch to option B - because you have practised it.
Why is Federer confident to go for an ace when faced with a break point and a second serve?
He is confident to go for it because he has practised that serve so many times. Like I said, preparation is only one of the techniques to improving confidence.
