You do not need to get criminal records in order to find out if someone is doing something you may not agree with. There are some things that may be seen as harmless by some and destructive to others. Getting someone's criminal records is not the only way to find out information on someone.
If someone has a short or non-existent criminal record and you feel like your gut instinct is still correct, you can still do your research and get the kind of information that you want. Someone may not have a criminal past, but they may have a past you may not agree with. For instance finding out that someone has a clean record, but has been divorced several times should tell you something. You can find this out from marriage records. If the person you are thinking of has been in and out of relationships and married several times it could be a red flag of other things to come.
Don't get completely wrapped around just doing a search for criminal records. Sometimes you may not be able to get the information that you are searching for, but that does not mean that you should stop. When it comes to keeping yourself and your family safe you should exhaust all resources to get the information that you need and want. There are other sources besides criminal records you can search; there are marriage records and other avenues you can pursue to get an idea of the kind of person you are dealing with.
