The skin is the largest organ of the body and it needs the appropriate nutrition to function properly. Many people in today's modern world are lacking in essential vitamins, minerals, and herbs and if your body is not provided with the required nutrition, your skin will be unhealthy and you may suffer with acne. Vitamins and minerals are a vital part of that required nutrition and research shows that less than 32 percent of Americans actually consume the required servings of vegetables and fruit on a daily basis. It is so much better for you if instead of eating processed sugar, you have at least one piece of fruit each day.

Some of the regular vitamins and minerals help to flush out free radicals and toxins from your body. Others help promote the forming of immunity in the body by their antibacterial effects. Vitamins and minerals are an important part of keeping your pores clean and they work hard at healing any damaged skin you may have. However, it should also be noted that not sticking to the correct dosage and taking an excess of vitamins or minerals can also be potentially dangerous.

Which vitamins are important for blemish free skin?

The protective tissue of your skin is strengthened by Vitamin A, which also prevents acne. In the same way, a lack of Vitamin A can actually promote the onset of acne. The production of sebum is lessened and the vitamin repairs the tissue made up from mucous membranes and skin. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant helping to get rid of toxins which have built up in your body.

Healthy looking skin is preserved with the use of Complex B vitamins which also help in relieving stress which, in turn, is yet another key factor of acne. Riboflavin works with Vitamin A and is essential for healthy hair, nails and skin. Thiamine is an antioxidant, helping circulation and digestion. Niacinamide affects the metabolism of carbohydrates in your system and improves your circulation. A shortage of this in your diet is another cause of acne. B5 or Pantothenic Acid is necessary for the adrenal glands to work correctly and it also reduces stress. Vitamin B6, or Pyridoxine, keeps your immune system and antibody production running properly. All the above mentioned Complex B vitamins are best taken in one dose together.

The super vitamin as it is often referred to, or Vitamin C with biofavonoids, helps at least 300 metabolic functions in your body. It is necessary for tissue repair and growth, and flushing toxins out of your system. It also improves immunity and at the same time protects against infection. You should check which would be the correct dosage for you with your doctor if you are diabetic.

Chromium, although widely used for weight loss can also help the fight against acne. It is not easily absorbed into the system so should be taken in an added form. A regular high intake of sugar causes the loss of chromium in your body.

Zinc helps to prevent acne by regulating oil gland activities. It promotes the healing process in tissues and helps to reduce scarring. With a healthy immune system in place wounds heal much more quickly. Zinc is also a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent the forming of free radicals, or toxins which cause harm to your body.

Finally, Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It improves tissue repair and healing and stops damage to cells by inhibiting oxidation of fats and the formation of free radicals.

A multivitamin with an added chromium supplement will give you most of what your body needs each day. The recommendation is to take a multivitamin twice a day as it is almost impossible for your body to process all the nutrients it needs in a multivitamin taken once daily.

Although vitamins and minerals supplementing your diet are important, natural herbs can help to control acne as well. If you apply tea tree oil on a spot or pimple it will fight the inflammation and reduce bacteria.

One last recommendation would be to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. This routine helps create regular bowel movements and flushes out harmful toxins from your body. It has an amazing affect on your skin too!
