9 Things That Doctors Say About ADD Or ADHD Popularity:

Attention deficiency disorder (ADD) or attention deficiency hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may not put a person's life in danger, but it can definitely affect his level of achievement and contentment. If you have reason to suspect that your child has ADD or ADHD, don't fool yourself into thinking that TLC can make this serious condition go away. It won't. Learn what doctors have to say about ADD or ADHD and know why you should have your child's condition treated immediately.

Doctors advise concerned parents to try evaluating children suspected with add or adhd by the utah criteria. The Utah Criteria is made up of several indicators that could determine whether your child is indeed suffering from ADD or ADHD.

According to the Utah Criteria, if your family has a history of ADHD, and if your child exhibits hyperactivity and concentration difficulties, an inability to finish tasks, mood swings, and if he's easy to get angry, frustrated, and impulsive, then there's a good chance he's suffering from ADD or ADHD.

Doctors are discovering more and more evidence that parents don't have to solely blame themselves when their children are diagnosed of having add or adhd. Changes in the brain structure could be the primary cause for this condition, although more proof is needed.

Doctors, however, believe that there are certain environmental factors that could increase chances for a child to suffer from add or adhd. Genes may be to blame: if there's a member in your immediate and extended family who's already suffering from ADHD, the chances will definitely increase. If the child's mother has a history of smoking, drug use, or suffered from great exposure to toxins, any of these could also make it more possible for her child to have ADD or ADHD. If the child himself is greatly exposed to toxins, that could be a cause for his condition as well.

Doctors are still unsure of the best treatment for add or adhd. You should therefore work together with your child's doctor to come up with the optimal solution for your child's condition. Current studies however have suggested that a combination of medication and treatment could provide the greatest benefit for your child.

Doctors greatly believe in the effectiveness of therapy for children with add or adhd. Consider the suggestions of your child's doctor, your budget, abilities, and time availability, as well as your child's preferences when choosing the right therapy for your child.

Behavior therapy requests that the people involved, from parents to teachers, to cooperate each other in finding ways to best manage the child's condition. Family therapy is for the benefit of the whole family. Parenting skills training, on the other hand, target parents and give them the necessary skills and abilities to enable them to give the best kind of help and support for their children. Psychotherapy is ideal for older children because it helps them personally analyze their condition and make them come up with the best solutions for themselves but under the supervision of a professional.

Doctors commonly prescribe psychostimulants for people suffering from add or adhd. While they don't strictly understand why this type of drug works for treating this condition, they have been quite effective in reducing occurrences for the signs and symptoms of this condition.

Doctors sometimes prescribe the use of antidepressants together with the use of other medications for ADD or ADHD if the child is suffering from other problems. ADD or ADHD can lead to depression when the affected individual feels frustrated with his limitations. Antidepressants are also commonly prescribed for older patients.

More and more doctors believe, nonetheless, that long-term medication is not the answer for add or adhd. It is a disorder and not an illness, and treatment as well as emotional support may still be the best ways for alleviating this condition.

Doctors are convinced of the need for immediate treatment for children suffering from add or adhd. If they are not given the necessary help, there's an enormous possibility that they'll grow up forever dependent on other people's support. Symptoms could also worsen and lead to other disorders.

In the end, you should always do your best to be guided by your mind, heart, and soul when choosing the best treatment and medication for your child's condition. Of course, make sure you take into consideration what the doctor has to say about ADD or ADHD as well!
